Physical Health Concerns

I have a special interest in working with people with Long Term Heath Conditions and in Persistent Pain. Our physical health and our emotional wellbeing are so inextricably linked together. By working on improving our response to the difficulty faced by long term conditions this can lead to greater quality of life and well being.

Long Term Health Conditions include Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ ME, Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Diabetes. This is not an exhaustive list.

Persistent Pain is a very difficult to live with and it is often only addressed by the medical profession with medications and interventions which can be limited in their effectiveness. However, the pain response is very complex and is best understood from a holistic position. Psychology allows us to understand more about pain and therefore to open up different avenues to manage pain. I am happy to work on Pain Management Techniques and EMDR so that you can feel more in control and improve your quality of life.

Medically Unexplained Symptoms is a term used by Medical Doctors where there are symptoms in the body that cannot be accounted for by organic changes within the body. It can sometimes be a difficult term to understand and accept. Understanding the difficulties by including a psychological perspective can be really helpful for people who are struggling to deal with unpleasant symptoms. It also gives us the opportunity to have a greater understanding and try different tools and techniques to help manage the distress and the symptoms.
